Container traffic

The Port of Helsinki's container traffic is concentrated at Vuosaari Harbour.

At Vuosaari Harbour, harbour operators take care of container clearance and access passes. Terminal notifications are given directly to harbour operators.

Trailer trucks heading for the closed port area continue along Satamatie Road through the gate area and arrive on the Harbour Road In street. If the harbour operator has been provided in advance with the vehicle registration and cargo unit numbers (as per terminal notification) and the vehicle can be identified, the vehicle is guided directly to the closed port area by changing signal lights. If the vehicle is not identified at the checkpoint, it is directed to the Gatehouse, where it is given a permit and entered in the system.

In the closed port area, fixed signs are used for guidance and drivers are signed in at harbour operators' checkpoints. The operators check cargo-related matters and direct the vehicle further in the area.

Container depot traffic

There are three depot companies in the closed harbour area: Marine Container Yard Oy Ab, Container Depot Ltd Oy and Arctic Container Oy. The three harbour operators, FS, MLT and Steveco, also have depot areas of their own in their operation areas. The transport company or the driver makes separate arrangements for an access pass with the container depot operator.
